JENESYS 2.0 Disaster Prevention Course (Batch 2) Application Now Open

Application for the second batch of JENESYS 2.0 Disaster Prevention Course is now open. Set to happen from September 30 to October 8, 2014, this program aims “to increase potential interest in Japan, especially in Disaster Management and Prevention, using the branding COOL JAPAN, and to further deepen mutual understanding between the youth of Japan and the ASEAN-Oceanian region.”

The said program has been possible through the initiative of  The Japanese Government, through the Japan Overseas Cooperative Agency (JOCA) and the Japan Information and Cultural Center (JICC) of the Japanese Embassy in Manila, and in partnership with the National Youth Commission (NYC).

For this batch, NYC will send 35 youth delegates and 2 supervisors.

Qualifications of Youth Delegates:

  • Filipino citizen, single, 18 – 30 years old
  • Philippine passport holders (valid until April 2015)
  • Currently-enrolled college or masteral students
  • With educational background in any of the following: Disaster Management, Environmental Studies, Japan Studies, Asian Studies, International Relations
  • Mentally and physically fit to travel
  • Can communicate in Japanese and English
  • Be able to attend the pre-departure briefing on September 28 and the program proper on September 30 – October 8, 2014

Requirements:

  • Accomplished NYC Application Form
  • Accomplished NYC Volunteers Application Form (for first-time applicants only)
  • Accomplished JENESYS 2.0 Application Form
  • Accomplished Agreement of Terms and Conditions
  • Accomplished Agreement of the Handling of Personal Information
  • One-page essay/comparative analysis of Japan and the Philippines’ Disaster Management and Prevention Mechanisms
  • Copy of Official School Registration Form

Qualifications of Supervisors:

  • Filipino citizen, 35-50 years old
  • Philippine passport holders (valid until April 2015)
  • With excellent communication skills; can exhibit a high-level responsibility and authority over the delegates; can manage a large group of young people.
  • With educational background in any of the following: Disaster Management, Environmental Studies, Japan Studies, Asian Studies, International Relations
  • Mentally and physically fit to travel
  • Can communicate in Japanese and English
  • Be able to attend the pre-departure briefing on September 28 and the program proper on September 30 – October 8, 2014

  • For government employees: Certification from immediate supervisor stating that applicant has no unliquidated cash advances.

Expenses:

  • Delegates will shoulder their travel expenses from their residence (province) to NAIA and back, as well as their accommodation in Manila for the pre-departure briefing.
  • The organizer will shoulder the delegates’ international airfare (Manila-Tokyo-Manila) and travel tax/terminal fee, as well as their food, accommodation, and local transportation in Japan.

The following are automatically disqualified:

  • Participants of NYC-coordinated international programs from June 12, 2012 – June 12, 2014 whose airfare, accommodation, and meals were paid for by the organizer; and
  • Participants of NYC-coordinated international programs from June 12, 2013 – June 12, 2014 whose airfare was shouldered by the participants and whose accommodationand meals were paid for by the organizer.
  • JENESYS, KIZUNA, or SSEAYP alumni
  • Alumni of all Japanese Government-sponsored scholarship, conference, cultural exchange, or training programs
