Hagupit, an international name of the typhoon over the Pacific Ocean may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday morning, according to PAGASA weather advisory.
It is expected to turn into a strong typhoon by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) of the US Navy.
It was located based on all available data at 1,278 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur (8.5ºN, 137.9ºE), with maximum sustained winds of 160 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 195 kph. It is forecast to move west northwest at 30 kph.
It is expected to move to Eastern Visayas on Friday, with its name changed to Ruby, once it enters the PAR.
Flash floods in low lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas may be a possible scenario, as stated in the press briefing of PAGASA.
