The National Historical Commission of the Philippines holds its writing competition entitled “Katiting Kathang Isip”.
Katiting Kathang Isip aims to commemorate historical events, places, and lives of Filipino heroes through a different light by playfully imagining how a hero could have reacted during a momentous event, thus encouraging the creativity and ingenuity of Filipino writers in creating a unique literary piece.
The competition is also in line with the Buwan ng Wika Celebration, thus, writers are expected to use the Filipino language in their piece.
1.The competition is open to all AGES. Must be a Filipino citizen. Interested applicants must show their ID for verification upon submission of entries.
2. Must submit the following requirements in a white letter envelope:
-Photo of the participant (2 x 2)
-Accomplished application form
-Accomplished certification of authorship
3.Participants are allowed to submit a maximum of three (3) entries in Filipino.
4.The literary piece should not exceed five (5) sentences with a maximum of sixty (60) words that must highlight an important historical event, place or person.
5.The submitted entry must be an original work of a participant, and must not have been previously published.
6.The submitted entry must follow the given format:
FONT SIZE: 14
MARGIN: 1” (one inch) on all sides
PAPER SIZE: Short bond paper (8.5” x 11”)
Participants’ real name should not appear on the paper,ONLY their pseudonyms.
7.Submitted entries must be placed in a short brown envelope.
8.Interested participants can submit their entries in any of the museums under the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.
9.Once a participant submits his/her entry/ies to one of NHCP museums, he/she can no longer submit entries to any other NHCP museums.
10.The competition will be open on August 3, 2015 (Monday). Deadline is on August 28, 2015 (Friday).
11.The awarding ceremony will be in September.
12.The First Prize winner shall be awarded a cash prize of Php 8,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition;the Second Prize winner shall be awarded a cash prize of Php 6,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition, and the Third Prize winner shall be awarded a cash prize of Php 4,000.00.
13.Three consolation prize winners shall receive Php 1,000.00 each.
14.The decision of the judges shall be final and irrevocable.
15.Participation in the competition implies acceptance of all rules and regulations.
16.Non-compliance of the rules will result in disqualification of the participant.
