NYC Extends 45th SSEAYP Applications to April 15, 2018

The National Youth Commission announces the extension of deadline of applications for participating youth and national leader for the 45th Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) until April 15, 2018.

“We want to accommodate the persistent clamor for extension of the applications in view of the holidays that prevented some applicants to facilitate the application requirements,” said Commissioner Paul Pangilinan, Chairman of NYC Committee on Global Mobility.

Application for the 4th SSEAYP has two categories; for participating youth, it is open to those who are between 18-30 years of age while for national leader applicants, they should be between 35 to 55 years of age.

The SSEAYP is a youth goodwill cruise to the ASEAN Member States and Japan that began in 1974 by virtue of a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the representatives of the first five ASEAN Member States, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia Philippines, Singapore and Thailand and Japan. The program brings together more than 300 participating youths and national leaders on board a Japanese luxury liner MS Nippon Maru that cruises to the appointed ASEAN Member States and Japan. It aims to promote goodwill and mutual understanding among the delegates.

Participants of the SSEAYP engage in various on board activities like discussions on thematic issues, national day presentations, PY seminars, sports exhibits and the like. During ports-of-call activities, the SSEAYP delegates participate in courtesy calls on the heads of governments, engage in interaction with local youth, institutional visits and homestay with local families.

In the Philippines, the NYC is mandated to select 28 participating youth of equal gender and geographic representation and one national leader. It is also the NYC that takes the lead in the implementation of the Philippine country program in partnership with various government agencies and the SSEAYP International Philippines, Inc. (SSEAYP alumni).

“The SSEAYP is a unique program and a life changing experience that will open a lot of opportunities for networking, better understanding of cultures and religious differences including cooperation in projects and activities for the benefit of the future generation in ASEAN and Japan. The beneficiaries also come up with an Action Plan after the program and engage in post program activities,” Pangilinan emphasized.

Interested applicants may send their completely filled out application forms and other requirements to not later than 5:00 p.m., Sunday, April 15, 2018.
